Description

With StairUp you can make almost any staircase for your SketchUp model. Whether it's a standard straight concrete stair or a wooden stair with a curve for a home, anything is possible.

  • Create the stairs you need for your SketchUp design. The default settings with which you can construct stairs in StairUp comply with the "Bouwbesluit" (Dutch Building Code). The construction of the stairs takes into account the walking line, the dimensions of the steps and the height of the stairs. The Building Code specifies a measurement for the height of the walking line and a suitable stairwell is calculated accordingly.

Of course, it is also possible to apply your own settings so that you can also create stairs for older housing types that do not comply with the current Dutch Building Code.

In addition to complying with the Dutch Building Code, the stairs are also IFC classified and can be used directly in a BIM model.

  • Stair type

StairUp has the most commonly used concrete staircases in all possible sizes. Click on the “finishing type” button and select the desired staircase type by clicking on one of the tiles.

    Stair connection

You can adjust the constructive “top detail (Y)” for different situations. Open the menu and select the desired construction detail for the correct connection.

    Floor connection

There are also various constructional applications for the “bottom detail (Z)” floor. Open the menu and select the desired connection.

    Stair dimensions

The stair is constructed based on the selected type, connection details and dimensions.

By default, a stair height of 2960 mm (16 x 185) and a width of 1000 mm is set. Furthermore, the stair has a rise of 185 mm and a tread of 240 mm. The function then automatically calculates the stair based on these parameters. If you want a different rise or tread, or a different floor height, this is not a problem. The stair can be adjusted and constructed in different directions according to your wishes.

  • Stair type

The Netherlands stands out from the rest of the world when it comes to architectural styles and building regulations. This is certainly the case when it comes to wooden stair. Throughout the world, most homes have straight wooden stair, which are not a challenge for an advanced draftsman to work out. Dutch stairs have a curve at the bottom, top or even in both places to save space. With StairUp you can construct all stairs and place them directly in your model.

    Bottom and top connection

Depending on the type of stair you want to build, you can choose a minimal or standard bottom and/or top connection. The choice of “minimal” or “standard” affects the shape of the stair and the stairwell. The “min” option always assumes that the stair will be constructed with the narrowest possible stairwell. If you choose the “standard” option, the lower or upper connection will be adjusted to a wider size. It is also possible to adjust the stairwell manually. With the “min” option, the width of the stairs will remain the same and only the stairwell will be adjusted. With the “standard” option, the stairwell and the shape of the stairs will be slightly adjusted. The length of the stairs will be adjusted to the stairwell and the remaining steps will be added to the bottom.

Please note that if you manually adjust the stairwell, the ceiling height may no longer comply with the Building Decree. The function will issue a notification to this effect. It is up to the user to check with the staircase supplier and the construction team whether the stairs can actually be installed. You can find more information about this in our disclaimer.

    Footholds

Check or uncheck to construct a stair with or without footholds.

    Stair dimensions

Of course, it is possible to specify other measurements for the stairs than the standard values. In the lower part of StairUp, the stair height, stair width, rise, tread and number of steps can be adjusted. To the right, next to the input fields, the calculations needed to create a stair are displayed. The stairwell is automatically adjusted with the “bottom connection” min or standard option. If the user adjusts the height, width, rise or run themselves, the stairwell must be adjusted and entered manually.

  • Upcomming

We have already incorporated many functionalities in the first official release, but there is more in the works:

    • Modifying previously constructed stairs

It should soon be possible to select a previously constructed staircase and change it. This will be developed in a future update.

    • Stair railings

This is also in the planning, as is the case with the risers, to turn handrails on and off. This way you can install an entire staircase in one go.

    • Warped corners

Stairs with sharp corners are still being built in the Netherlands (including new construction). This is also on the list of additions.

    • Improving the placement of components

The wooden stairs are now placed in a “mirror image” compared to the images in StairUp. We are working on this as well.

    Wishes, bugs

We can of course think of a lot, but it is possible that you are still experiencing problems while working with StairUp, or you have a wish that you would like to see realized in StairUp. Share your experience and feedback with us and we will try to include it in the next release. Email us atThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
