Material properties
In SketchUp, you can select the materials you want to edit. Once you have selected a material, you can edit it with:
- Reflection
This option assigns reflection to materials. The degree of reflection is linked to the diffuseness and transparency of the material, giving you a realistic representation of your material. - Refraction
Refraction is also known as refraction of light. It is the way in which light deflects or refracts as it passes through a particular material such as glass or water. - Relief
Add “bump maps” to your material to create a subtle relief that makes your materials and render more realistic. - Light power
Select a color/texture and add a light power to it. So you can quickly create light surfaces that give off light.
Illumination options
In addition to assigning light intensity to a material, it is also possible to apply air points, spotlights and sunlight.
- Light points
A light point is a light source that your model places and illuminates in all directions. These can be placed without acrmature. Hang them in the room to create extra lighting or hang them in a fixture from a 3D warehouse. Here you can also choose to provide the shadows with hard or right subtle lines. - Spots
Place “spotlights” in your model. With spotlights you have control over the angle, width, color and strength of the light beam. - Sunlight
One of the options for the background is sunlight. This allows you to use sunlight to light the scene naturally. Determine the intensity of the radiation by adjusting it. This way you can avoid overexposing the result.
Other Functions
- Podium Browser*
The Podium Browser is an extensive library of 3D assets completely prepared with settings for use with SU Podium. This library includes: 3D light fixtures, 2D “faceme” plants, 3D plants and high quality materials. You drag the assets directly from the browser (online) into your SketchUp model.
*) The browser is integrated in SU podium and comes free with an SU Podium license. The Podium browser can also be downloaded and used separately. You can order a separate license in our webshop. - Podium Panoramas
Podium Panoramas allows you to create 360 degree panoramas of the model. You can present these to your customers interactively using an HTLM code generated when exporting a panorama. Then click on the link and view the model rendered in your customers' web browser. - Background
There are three options for the background of your images. Choose a background with sunlight or create a night scene or choose a transparent background. This option allows you to add your own background to the result afterwards during editing. - Clay Render
With Clay Render, all textures are removed from the model and rendered with one and the same color giving you a kind of maquette idea. The transparency and light settings in the model are rendered along with them. A perfect way to do a volume study or to present a concept to your clients.
